For hundreds of years, Nepal’s historical narrative has marginalized the stories and experiences of numerous underprivileged and indigenous communities. Sporadic instances of protests and uprisings demanding equal representation of diverse identities has always been met with state oppression. This exhibition draws attention to Nepal’s persistent and problematic social hierarchies, while also looking at external interventions that exacerbated such inequities. It also highlights the abuse of power through state-sponsored violence as experienced by Nepali peoples in order to catalyze a change in the metanarrative of the “nation”.
