"Nepal's Herbal Exlixirs Re-imported" 2018

Artist : Mekh Limbu

Medium : Medicinal Bottle, Herbs Sticker, Light Box

Dimension : 101.6 cm / 47.32 cm

In Mekh Limbu’s installation medicine vials don’t just represent medicines. They also remind us of the problematic aspects of the medical sector in Nepal such as the uncontrolled price hike, black marketing, poor quality of medicines, and blatant negligence of people's health. Limbu has used medicine bottles and on it are stickers of various herbs illuminated with bulbs from within the bottles. He points out that even though Nepal has the capacity to produce herbal medicine, most herbs are exported and processed elsewhere. Nepal’s reliance on imported medications impacts the health of thousands of people in Nepal. Limbu’s installation underscores factors influencing the production and consumption of medicine.
